Classes

For those who are unfamiliar with how to operate a sewing machine

If you have a sewing machine lurking in a corner at home and aren’t sure how it works, this class is for you. Even if you don’t have a machine but are interested in learning how to use one, come to this class and use one of ours. We are confident that you’ll be hooked. You will learn how to thread your machine, how to sew straight and curved lines on fabric, and how to sew two pieces of fabric together. You will even make a custom drink coaster during class. Materials are included. 

For those who know how to operate a machine and are ready to start making projects

This class will level up your skills to making useable projects from written instructions. We will have a lot of fun learning about notches in patterns, how to arrange the patterns on fabric, and sewing up your own tote bag! Materials are included.

Prerequisite: know how to operate a sewing machine independently to sew straight and curved lines. 

Many people love the look and feel of fabric that has stretch when they wear it, such as tshirts, swimsuits, sweatshirt fabric, etc. Did you know that anyone can sew this type of fabric with the right techniques and tips? You can sew it on your standard home sewing machine! Attend this class to learn those techniques and you will be on your way to fearlessly making any stretchy project that your heart desires.  Materials are included.
Prerequisite: know how to operate a sewing machine independently to sew straight and curved lines. Bring your own machine.

Here is your opportunity to learn what all of those notations, symbols, and words mean on a purchased sewing pattern for clothes. After this class you will be able to follow along with basic pattern instructions on your own. This class will be split into two sessions, with the second session being the sewing day where you will follow the instructions to make a basic skirt (this skirt will be generic and not sized to fit anyone in particular).  Materials are included.
Prerequisite: “Sewing 102” or equivalent. You should have already made several sewing projects on your own, whether they are apparel, accessories, or home décor. Bring your own machine. 

This is your opportunity to learn and try all of the various hemming techniques. Learn the size and type of hem which is standard for each item of clothing. You will then practice each style / hem technique. Don’t let a bad hem make your project look unprofessional!
Prerequisite: “Sewing 102” or equivalent. You should be comfortable using your sewing machine and manipulating fabric. Bring your own machine. 

There are a few types of zippers, and even more ways to insert them into your projects. In this class you will learn and practice all of the types and styles of zippers, how to put them in, and how each technique changes the appearance of your project. Once you can put in a zipper, the projects available for you to make are dramatically expanded.
Prerequisite: “Sewing 102” or equivalent. You should be comfortable using your sewing machine and manipulating fabric. Bring your own machine. 

The dreaded buttonhole is a myth! We will go over how to use your sewing machine to make perfect buttonholes. We will even discuss a few types of buttonholes and when to use them. If your machine has those other types of buttonholes we will practice those as well. We will even discuss how to remove a buttonhole if there is a mistake! There are a few correct ways to sew on a button. We will go over them and do a short practice. Once you can put in a buttonhole, the options for clothing are dramatically expanded. 
Prerequisite: “Sewing 102” or equivalent. You should be comfortable using your sewing machine and manipulating fabric. Bring your own machine which has a buttonhole feature. If you’re not sure, just contact us to ask. If your machine doesn’t have a buttonhole feature let us know, and you can use ours. 

A sloper is a sewing pattern that fits your body and only your body because it’s made to your measurements. In this class we will make a sloper for a skirt that is in the style of a pencil skirt, so that you can make perfect pencil skirts at home to your heart’s content. On your own you can copy the pattern and make it into a different style of skirt. We will also be adding a class to teach how to do that. Materials are included.
Prerequisites: “Introduction to Apparel Sewing Patterns” or equivalent, plus “All About Zippers” or equivalent. You should have made a project from a sewing pattern before, and know how to insert a zipper. Bring your own machine.

A sloper is a sewing pattern that fits your body and only your body because it’s made to your measurements. In this class we will make a sloper for a skirt that is stretchy from the knit fabric and pulls on without any zippers or buttons. On your own you can copy the pattern and make it into a different style of skirt. We will also be adding a class to teach how to do that. Materials are included.
Prerequisites: “Introduction to Apparel Sewing Patterns” or equivalent, plus “Never Fear Knit Fabric” or equivalent. You should have made a project from a sewing pattern before and sewn with stretchy fabric. Bring your machine.

A sloper is a sewing pattern that fits your body and only your body because it’s made to your measurements. In this class we will make a sloper for a t-shirt that fits you! On your own you can copy the pattern and change the style elements. We will also be adding a class to teach how to do that. This class is split into two sessions. 
Prerequisites: “Introduction to Apparel Sewing Patterns” or equivalent, plus “Never Fear Knit Fabric” or equivalent. You should have made a project from a sewing pattern before and sewn with stretchy fabric. Bring your machine.

In this class we will all have fun making pants together. The pants will be the Pagosa Pants from Straight Stitch Designs, and can have a standard straight leg or a wider leg. Hands on instruction and help will be provided as we go through the process together. You can actually make your own pants. The class will be split into three sessions. 

Prerequisites: “Introduction to Apparel Sewing Patterns” or equivalent. You should have made a project from a sewing pattern before.
